Oberlin's Women: A Legacy of Leadership & Activism

Margaret Jeanne Forsythe

Margaret Jeanne Forsythe (1923-2010, OC 1945) was a college administrator and educator. After graduating from Oberlin College, Forsythe continued her education at the Harvard-Radcliffe School of Business, where she completed a certificate in business administration. She graduated from Syracuse University with an M.A. in guidance counseling and received her Ph.D. in education from Case Western Reserve University. Forsythe held many influential positions in higher education over the course of her career, including her work at Kansas State University as the head resident and Panhellenic advisor, as the assistant dean of women, and as an assistant professor of special education. She was also the dean of women and an assistant professor of education at Kent State University and the dean of women at the University of Cincinnati. At Ohio Wesleyan University, Forsythe served as the dean of women, dean for student development, director of academic advising, and international student advisor. She retired from Ohio Wesleyan University in 1987.
